A Simple Thanks Will Do

Another great day in America and on this day I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.

Of course, it isn't that simple. It rarely is.

Thanksgiving has come under fire because of a number of 'issues' people have with the holiday.

Of course, we don't really know what the first Thanksgiving was like, although we do have some idea. Some say it was a truce between the native Indians and the Colonists, some say it was all a sham and a prelude to the massacre of a race of people. Other have their own version of "history" depending, as always, on their source.

None of that matters now. Sure, some lament what happened a few hundred years ago and think there should be some kind of "accounting". Not me. Some wonder when America will return to its glory and not be some lumbering world-weary giant stomping through every diplomatic issue. Not me.

For me, Thanksgiving means giving thanks. We are here in 2008. We live in the greatest country on the planet, have the most giving populace, and although we sometimes tune out the rest of the world, we can be truly astonishing as a people.

So. Have a great day. A simple thanks will do wonders to your neighbors, your friends, and to yourself. No strings attached. And while you're at it, wish the best for those less fortunate.

Here! Here! I agree wholeheartedly, Michael. It's sad how we will make an issue out of everything, given the chance. I applaud free speech but some should just remain silent! A short, simple, and sweet message. I give thanks for you! Happy Thanksgiving!
