We the people don't like being driven, yet sometimes it seems as though we are being herded.

Suddenly, the gloom has lifted and 'things' aren't as bad as we were led to believe. Of course, we weren't really 'led' (or herded) in that many of us realize the way of the world (and this country in particular) will continue for some time. Sure, we all know unemployment is higher than it has been for awhile. Sure, we all know about banks, mortgages, AIG bonuses, etc. We know about all of this and we the people have continued on our way with our own lives and not really worried too much about the other guy. We don't like some of what we hear, but we really don't buy it as we have our own lives to think of.
Sure, sometimes we think we should hide our money under our mattress, until we realize we are being silly and are being led to believe the worst. Sure, sometimes we get angry when those on television (and Washington, of course) try to incite the mob in us and provoke outrage, telling us certain companies (AIG and Citibank, to name two) paid millions in bonues after getting taxpayer bailouts.
We don't really fall for it after thinking it through, though, since we know one thing about these bonuses: Congress (especially the House Banking Committee) knew all about them before a dime was handed out. It is amazing to me how those in Washington can cry foul and warn of the sky falling and the impending disaster when they knew all about all of this beforehand. Yet they will lead us to believe, with the media's help, the worst. Keep the doom and gloom alive and drive the people to riot in the streets.
I don't like the fact AIG (or any company, to be honest) receives taxpayer money for the simple reason it is a slippery slope, as we now see. Which companies to save? Forget single companies, which industries? Which to fail? Why did Washington save Goldman Sachs and let Lehman Brothers drown? And forget about accountability. Who on this planet can say what happened to the first forty-five billion given to the banks?
We are led to believe our best interest is served by those making decisions in Washington, and we are starting to realize those same people do not have a clue as to what we the people really want. We the people don't really care about bailing out anyone, don't care about the sideshows Washington provides, such as same-sex marriage, stem-cell research, and the president on Leno.
We want our America back, the one that says anyone can grow up to be President and, conversely, anyone can grow up to be homeless. We want those who have our best interest in mind to have our best interest in mind. If not, then we want those people to get out of the way.
We the people don't like being driven. We especially don't like being taken for a ride.
