The Good, The Bad, and the Moronic

Another great day in America as we realize summer is almost over. Of course, here in Texas the temperature is 'only' supposed to be 101, which means Fall must surely be right around the corner. I wait, and my tired air conditioner waits, with anticipation.
So. Here are three main subjects which for some reason have captured America's attention. Forget the fact we have almost 10% unemployment, forget the fact the recession is continuing in spite of (or because of?) throwing billions at the problem, and forget the fact we haven't a clue as to what happened to the 'transparency' we were all promised running up to this administration. If anything, this administration is more secretive than the last, which is really saying something. Those who wonder, consider this: where is all of the TARP money? Where are all of the billions in the stimulus package? Who decided where it went? More questions, of course, than answers.
The Good:
Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska. I have nothing against her at all: in fact, I actually like her. I like the fact she sticks to her guns (pun intended) and really believes what she believes. It's a good thing only because she, as with Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi, is an incredibly polarizing figure who turns out to be more distraction than anything. Sure, she is the kind of woman the dems and NOW should like: independent, strong, willful. Of course, those groups don't like those traits in republicans, so she gets the business-end of the skewer. Talk about hypocrisy. If she does run for President, hand Mr. Obama another four years.
The Bad:
President Obama's latest news conference. Forget everything you know about health care, forget your opinions on Universal Care (or Socialized Care, for those who paint everything Washington does these days with a red brush) and listen to the president explain how more people will be insured by the same number of doctors for less money and you will understand why you don't have a Harvard professor teach the nation anything. And speaking of professors, it didn't help for him to inject himself into yet another race-card fray by saying, "I don't know all of the facts, but . . .". Geez, if you don't know all of the facts, don't speak if you're on national television doing a news conference!
The Moronic:
Barney Frank (D), head of the Finance Committee, is trying to get the banks to be more consumer-friendly. This has to be one of the most moronic things to come out of Washington since some guy said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were solvent. Oh wait, that was the same guy: Barney Frank. I know many people are thinking of hiding their money under their beds because they're worried about the banks, but don't worry, you've got representatives on your side who have no clue but they'll work it out. Really, they'll fix it. Just ask the lobbyists.
And people wonder why many are so concerned about health care. It's turning out most would probably not mind getting skewered by the insurance companies as long as they get coverage.
That is not really moronic. That's just sad.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)Michael,Ah, I love your wit. Very well said. And you managed to do it with honesty and by not taking one side or another. Your comment about Palin and had she been liberal was right on.Thanks for your good thoughts...NancyThanks for your response. Gov. Palin really did get a bum rap from the left, and although I try to be as objective as I can, that was a real turn-off. Of course, she doesn't help matters much by her tone (although you can't blame her, I guess) but still, you would think a powerful woman would be a shoo-in for those who supposedly want to defend women's rights. Perhaps this is another example of groups who have a loud banner proclaiming one thing while being exclusionary to someone who might have a different ideaology. NOW, as with the NAACP, NRA, and many other groups, have proven to be exclusive and exclusionary to the extreme. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Palin's stepping down reminded me of McCain putting his campaign on hold to rush back to DC to "fix" the economy. Bad move. You are so right. Should she be the GOP candidiate in 2012, Obama will skate into another 4 year term of Muslim cuddling.Barney Frank? The answer is in the question!Well done here, Michael.Thanks. I don't know what it is about Sarah Palin that drives the left crazy, but for some reason she does. I doubt she'll run in 2012, yet with politics you never know. Thanks for reading and commenting.Micheal,I had to butt in. Why the left hates Palin? She was a governor, a mom, kept a Down's Syndrome baby, had a daughter get pregnant out of wedlock, believes in the right to bear arms, kills moose (I forget but I think that's the one), and fired the cook! She is so typical of so many families in this country. The good, the bad, the idyllic and the moronic. She stands for what she believes in.NancyThe left hates Sarah Palin because she is exactly the kind of person they should love - except she rejects their ideaology and instead is a republican. Democrats (and Republicans, to an extent) mastered the 'with me or against me' mantra long before Mr. Bush made it popular.Well stated! You may have hit the nail on the head.
Michael, agreement or disagreement isn't a criteria for me when rating an article or making a comment. This is great reporting and it would be a welcome change to hear it in the news this way. I chuckled and pondered as I read this. Thanks! Thanks so much. I wonder what will happen with the three examples in the article. Sarah Palin will probably go into obscurity, Mr. Obama will have his meet with Mr. Gates and the officer who arrested him and hopefully everyone will move on, and Mr. Frank will continue to find new ways to skewer us into thinking he's actually got our best interest in mind in Washington. Life goes on . . .Thanks for reading and commenting.Somehow, Sarah Palin doesn't strike me as the type who would go into obscurity now that she's known the international spotlight! I can even see her coming out as a televangelist! You may be right. The more I think of it, the more I think she really does like the limelight. Time will tell, I guess. Maybe a talk-show host? We'll see.
In my opinion an outstanding analysis and then extremely well communicated. Thanks very much. I try to be as objective as possible, and the 'good, bad and moronic' pretty much is what struck me in the news this week. I appreciate your reading and commenting.
