Forget The Facts: We Know How This Will Turn Out

Another beautiful day in America and it seems as though there are a lot of stories in the news today vying for our attention. Of course, the economy and our crushing debt is the number one issue facing this country today, yet that strangely is not in the news so much. And why should it be? There are so many other stories which we all hear about and we know, deep down, exactly how these stories (or in some cases non-stories) will play out. In no particular order:
Sorry, I mean fired, not actually 'whacked'. I forgot the White House is run the 'Chicago Way'.
Tiger Woods: This poor guy had an accident in the middle of the night and refuses to talk with the police about it. And then this poor guy says the rumors surrounding this accident are unhealthy. Geez, if there was only some way to quell those rumors . . .
Oh wait, I know: how about talking to the cops and giving your side of the story? As Mr. Nixon (and JFK, Edward Kennedy, and just about every politician) found out to his chagrin, the coverup is always worse than the infraction.
Mr. Obama's Big Speech: That's right, it's been advertised enough. Tonight we are going to hear his (well, his advisors') Plan For Afghanistan. I commend Mr. Obama for thinking this one out, yet I can hear 'political maneuvering' coming into play here. The Plan will call for an increase of troops and the timetable for withdrawl will be when the Afghans can stand on their own. Sound familiar? The problem is this: Afghanistan is not Iraq. No one will be happy with The Speech since the far-left will decry the continuation of the war, and the far-right will say not enough troops will be sent to finish the job. Perhaps he should just yank 'em all?
Regardless, the facts presented tonight will not mesh with the reality of this quagmire. Just a hunch.
The Fort Hood Shootings: This story rocked America and made worldwide headlines, until it was discovered the shooter (I will not say 'alleged' since that is an affront to every American who deals with reality) is a Muslim with a big chip on his shoulder. All of a sudden the story disappears faster than Al Gore after those fraudulent emails were discovered. We know the facts, and the facts apparently do not coincide with the dream world of the media (or the government, apparently), where everyone really does get along and radical Islam is a myth or right-wing conspiracy. This one will stay disappeared until a quiet story leaks out of Hassan's court martial and/or hanging. I will go on a limb and say he will not be executed for his mass-murder.
Not-So-Green Emails: Another story that made worldwide headlines for about five minutes, until the damage it caused was realized. Then, nothing. Those within the environmental movement are strangely silent, and those on the right had a field day for awhile. The cynics say 'I told you so!' and the believers say 'Oops'. Well, the fact is some scientists 'adjusted' their data, and now the entire movement is under fire. It will turn out nothing has changed: there will still be the believers and cynics.
The Economy And Crushing Debt: I know, this one should be number one, yet surprisingly it isn't. Bailouts and Payouts and Borrowing, oh my! Unemployment is over 10%, we are borrowing (and owe) trillions, yet you will be hard-pressed to find any raw data as to what we are doing about it. Mr. Clinton said it best: 'It's the economy, stupid'. Why don't people remember that? Perhaps the Dream World doesn't include mass fraud, waste and outright theft by banks and governments?
Health Care: The facts are these: Reform is needed, the uninsured are going to get relief, and there are not enough votes to pass this monstrosity. Perhaps because it is a monstrosity. Pare down the bill to just nuts and bolts, don't give anyone a pass (in other words, pass tort reform and stop insurance companies from dropping coverage as long as premiums are paid), and for God's sake get rid of the fraud, bribes (as in the payoff to Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana) and outright stupidity which has made this legislation a laughing-stock.
We know the facts. More important, we know what is right. And yet, in all of the stories above we also know, deep down, the facts will get jumbled (or forgotten) and we will be presented with something . . . else. Regardless, remember what's right and remember when someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes. It's really bad if you paid for the wool . . .

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)Hi Michael.Nobody likes too much truth ... especially the government. And yes, it's like a sitcom on TV, you can pretty much always tell where it is going.Great article and insights,DianneThanks as always for reading and commenting. It is a sad state we're in when we know (usually) what's going to happen when certain kinds of stories hit the airwaves.
Very good insights - why couldn't we get someone like you to be our representative? MarijoThanks for the kind comment. Probably because if I'm going to work with prostitutes it would be in the inner-city. Thanks again for reading and commenting.Whoa - very good one liner! Thanks.
It honestly sounds like you are regurgitating the rhetoric of Fox News and Glenn Beck. I appreciate your opinions, but they seem a little copy paste to me.Wow, really? Stunned, I am. Don't really understand how you came to that conclusion since I'm as objective as I can be, and as we know the news orgs these days (all of them, honestly) are anything but. I honestly try to look at both sides, but I will call a bribe a bribe and a vanishing story a vanishing story when I see one. Perhaps you've read the wrong article?Seriously, though: we can all sing songs around the campfire and live in a dream world where we all think of the 'good old days' all we want, but we have some real problems in this country and we need some real solutions, not bandaids or coverups or distractions. And no, I do not copy/paste anything from anyone, ever. I write 'em all on the fly, for good or ill . . .Still, thanks for reading and commenting.
