I Would Walk A Mile To Get Another Point Of View

I would walk a mile for a chance to meet my neighbors. Not necessarily those who live next door, but those who live a few block down the road.
It's easy for all of us to remain in our little bubbles of life: work, home, shopping, etc. We have our routines, we have the things we do day in and day out: work at the same place, meet the same people, do the same (for the most part) things. It would be nice for us (all of us) to step outside of our routine to see how others live, others with perhaps very different ideas on life.
Bothered (for some reason) by the Casey Anthony verdict? I bet all of the people you associate are as well. When you speak of it, isn't it like the preacher talking to the choir as opposed to the congregation? How about getting a different point of view? Walk outside of your bubble and hear something else?
Worried about the debt ceiling or Congress' staggering inability to do it's job? Walk down the street and see how others think. Worried about the way your city is dealing with a down economy, closing libraries and skimping on social services? See what others in your city (on your block) think.
All in all, we should consider walking a mile to get a different point of view. At worst you will hear opinions and thoughts with which you vehemently disagree. At best . . . well, you'll meet your neighbors and get some excercise!

Hi Michael I do this already. I only have to step into the front garden witha mug of coffee and nearly every neighbour in the street steps into it too. Its like they wait for me to come out and play. The conversation at times like you say I find can be interesting. You learn a lot from others, or you could end up laughing with others, whichever, we all enjoy socializing in this manner. Going to have to end here because, and no lie, there is about 9 people in the garden waiting for me to go out yet again.
Keep well
KacyThat must be nice. Thanks for the comments.
Hi Michael.
Very good point. And I have to say that one of the things I enjoy about SearchWarp is that I get to "hear" a lot of other people's takes on things. And ... I get to hear it from people in countries other than the US as well. What could be better? And I don't even have to put on my shoes. :)
Great article!
Hugs,
DianneYou are absolutely right. This is a great place for diverse thinking. Thanks as always.
Michael, you have, on these pages, been a wonderful example of getting out of the bubble. Thank you for your wonderful insights. And thanks for your wonderful comments. SearchWarp is really the only place I can 'vent', I guess. Thanks again.
Change is tough, and seeking or accepting a different view of things can be impossible.
Great piece, Michael. Thanks very much. It is very hard for many to look at something from a different point of view. I try and I think I'm getting better at it, but as always it is challenging. Thanks for the comments.
Well I am with you on that, you know, even at church we shake each others hand and offer a sign of peace. Do we know these people? We know they live half a mile in either direction from ourselves, and though I believe a large part of us has forgotten the meaning of love thy neighbour and I would walk the mile if I thought it would make a difference, we have also become too suspicious of our neighbours intentions? How crazy is that......and what a terrible shame!. Great thought provoking article. Thanks very much. It is unfortunate how cynicism has crept into otherwise normal relations. I appreciate the comments.
